NY MAZZELLA Reply

HI MY NAME IS TONI JO MAZZELLA. MY GRANDFATHER CAME FROM ISCHIA ITALY. HE CAME TO NEW YORK THROUGH ELLIS ISLAND. HIM AND HIS BROTHERS HAD A FRUIT AND VEG. STAND ON 9TH AND 53RD. HE DIDN'T LIKE THE CITY TOO MUCH SO HE MOVED HIS FAMILY UPSTATE TO MARLBORO, NY WHERE HE OPERATED A SMALL FARM. I KNOW IN ISCHIA MAZZELLA IS A VERY COMMON NAME.

hi Toni Jo. I'm John Mazzella, born and raised in Brooklyn in 1957, still living in NYC. I have met Carl Mazzella, who (as of a couple of years ago, anyway) owns
Mazzella's Market at 9th and 53. My father's father, Giovanni Mazzella, came
from Ischia to Brooklyn around 1905, and bought a house in Brooklyn. That house is STILL occupied by the family! I did visit Ischia last year, but only for
a short afternoon; I'd like to return and spend a few days there. There is literally
a street there with my name on it: via Giovanni Mazzella! C'e la dolce vita!

My Grandparents came over from Ischia (Grandfather) Antonio and Grandmother(Josephine from Venis) around 1920. My Grandfather came over with some of his brothers Fank, John Joseph. I will have to question the older relatives to be exact. They lived in Jamaca Queens area before moving upstate. My parents vistied Ischia and said the whole island is filled with Mazzella's. I'm starting to meet more and more Mazzella's here in New York that aren't related or we can't figure out if we are related. Most of my Mazzella relatives live in Marlboro,NY which is about 60 miles from NYC.

Hi Toni, If your family was from Henry and Carol street in Brooklyn then I guess we are related.

Frank Mazzella was my great grandfather, married to Bridgetta. They lived by Central Park and my great grandpa owned a fish market. They moved upstate, to Marlboro, and started a farm. they had 6 kids: Marie (Mary), Louisa (Louise), Anna (Anne), Luiggi (Louie), Leonardo (Leo) and Francis (Fran). Everyone except Fran still lives in Marlboro. Anne is my grandmother. I knew your grandma, she was Zia Josephine to me.

I am Olimpia SCOTTI Bernard; my parents are Silverio & Santina Scotti. As a girl we lived in DeReama Avenue off of Baychester. My dad grew up as a child on 265 East 152 Street Morris Avenue. My paternal grandmother was Olimpia Conte and her parent's were Guisierra Conte & Anna Scotti. She had siblings Silveria, Civita, Gelsomina, Giuseppe & Anna. My paternal grandfather was also named Silverio Scotti and his father was Christofano Scotti and he married Idanella ? Christofano Scotti's father was Pedro Scotti.

On my mother's side; my mother was Santina Scarfi and her parents were Silverio Scarfi and Ida Rivierch. My grandparent's had 3 children - Ada, Santina & Giacomo. My grandmother had the restaurant at Chiaia de Luna that was dug out of the sandstone. Silverio Scarfi parents were Giacomo Scarfi and Margarette Feola. Ida Rivierch's parents were Silverio Rivierch and Josephone Conte. I don't have any exact dates.

This is all the family history I have. If anyone has any corrections and further data to add such as date of births, date of deaths and wedding dates.

In 1972 we moved upstate to Stormville, NY and I have lived here since. My husband & I purchased the house from my parents and they have since moved to Fort Pierce, FL. I am trying to find out more information on my lost Ponza relatives. Can anyone give me any details or any good geneology sites I can find more information? Ponza doesn't have many churches so finding marriage certificate information should be easy.
