Strange But True! Reply

Back in 1961 they made the play "West Side Story" into a movie starring actress Natalie Wood. She played a Puerto Rican woman,

By 1972 I had discovered that her real last name was Gurdin and she was of Russian ancestry.

Then in 1972 while I was in High School here in the Bronx, CBS showed the movie on channel 2 WCBS TV.

The next day all of the kids in school were snapping their fingers, just like in the movie! They snapped their fingers so much their fingers got infected! LoL!

I made fun of the movie saying Natalie Wood didn't look like a real Puerto Rican! I said she looks too Eastern European to be a Hispanic. She looked Slavic to me.

Occasionally I'd cable surf and see the movie and turn it off, upset they didn't use someone else to play Maria.

A few years ago, I wound up in the hospital in Manhattan for a scan of my thyroid. I had Goiters and it needed excision.

I waited on the exam table in that skimpy hospital gown they give us all to embarrass us all, I swear! They do it to humiliate us patients!

Suddenly Natalie Wood walked in the door! She then said Hello my name is Maria and I am going to scan you right now.

I acted cool, her resemblance to Natalie was uncanny.

I asked her what her nationality was. I told her I was Italian. Maria said she was 100% Peurto Ricanos and proud of it!

I then asked her, "Have you ever been told you look like Natalie Wood?"

Maria then said, "Oh!, I get that all the time! Even my fiance says so!

"You do! I told her. She was very beautiful and she is sorely missed.

It is nice to know that there are women still walking around on this Earth who can still look like that. Her daughter almost can.

So, next time you see "West Side Story" and think Natalie Wood doesnt look Hispanic, NO, you are completely wrong!
She looks just like a Spanish woman named Maria and God bless her.
