Family Crest Reply

Does anyone have the actual family crest? I've seen a crest in one of the posts that looks like someone did it with MS Paint. I am looking for the actual Mazzella Family crest (Coat of Arms). I am interested in getting it made into a ring.

BTW my family originally came from Ponza, my father Silverio Mazzella was born there in 1934.
I have 2 aunts, Gilda Mazzella and Linda Verderosa.

Gilda Mazzella married Angelo Mazzella
they have 2 sons, Angelo Mazzella and Ralph Mazzella

my grandfather was Guiseppe Mazzella b.1895 His mother was Lavinia Mazzella b.1902

Both died before I was born in 1980.

From what I've heard, Guiseppe's father was Luigi Mazzella, who was killed in a fight sometime in 1900. (Kicked in the family jewels and died as a result) The @$$ who killed him had the nerve to ask my great grandmother to marry him (She said no of course). He is buried in an unmarked grave at St. Raymonds Cemetary in Bx, NY. (Family members fought over who would pay for the stone, and no one ever did)

My grandfather was 5 year old when he had to start taking care of his family.

Hi SJ,

You might want to contact Lynn Mazzella Hunt about this ancestor. I found there were many Luigi Mazzella's.
Records she has from Fordham Hospital show a Luigi Mazzella died of peritonitis from an infected Urinary bladder. It does not sound to me like he was intentionally murdered by the man. It sounds like he died accidentally. It seems he died from an infection of some kind after a bar fight.

Before the advance of Pennicillin V and other antibiotics, many people would die from nicking themselves shaving and other little injuries. My Grandpa shot and killed a man in 1911, but it was a different person during a different decade. The man my Grandpa killed, died in Essex Junction, Vermont.

My Mom bought a mounted crest from the Sansone Institute in Massachusetts. It has faded over the decades due to sunlight and it has become too hard to see. So, what I did was use MS Paint to restore the faded image. I apologize for the artwork, but the original crest looked like a cartoon. Ignore the wooden plaque and metal frame around the crest. It is just decoration and not a part of our family crest.

In 1983 I met a man at the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix Arizona. He had many ancestry books. I paid him $5 to find "Mazzella" and he did. The ones that had our name Mazzella were from France and written in French. The reason is that the King of France ordered all crests recorded. It says oddly that in France our family name is "Foudre" which means club. In England, our family name is said to be "James" or "Club". Our family name dates back to 8th Century AD during the Crusades. I have no explanation for the crest in the upper right hand corner of this page.

Regarding the headstones in the cemetery....

My late friend did not ever put a headstone on his parents grave in St Raymond's in The Bronx and he suffered great misfortune! My father, restored his ancestors graves on Ponza and he luckily inherited a terrace on Ponza used to grow grapes for wine.

My nephews can have it, I don't want it.

Lynn is my half sister, I know she was doing some research on our family history, but I dont think she found anything on the coat of arms. I'll keep on checking around the web. Thanks

OK, Sorry, but I never saw anyone here in USA with such a coat of arms or crest. I saw some people on Ponza who had one in 1970, but they all are dead now.

Beware of frauds. My Mother was sent a fake crest. Our crest does not have crossed swords.

On the image I made of the crest I have included the description that was in the French book of Ancestry.

I translated it into English.
