Thyroid Multi Nodular Goiters Reply

I accidentally went to a doctor from Mercy Hospital.
I already had an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor also called a head and neck doctor who was at Mount Sinai who was now at Lummox Hill Hospital. I'm sorry, but I cannot help make fun of places names. Maybe Lexington Hill Hospital. LoL!

This new doctor ordered me for a CAT Scan which turned up a nodule inside my neck in my Thyroid Gland. I felt something growing in my throat, but I couldn't believe it was actually happening. The scan was right. Doc did a Fine Needle Biopsy with local anesthesia. No tumor tissue was seen. Doc ordered me for a Thyroid Scan. I reported to Mercy Hospital and swallowed a pill full of Radioactive Iodine. Next day I lay flat on a machine while it scanned my neck. The Radiologist there Dr Santoro was very nice and said he seen a nodule in the Thyroid Gland. He showed it on the light panel. Doc said I probably had a benign tumor and needed surgery to remove it.

Next I switched back to my surgeon Arnold Komisar MD who said it must be a Goiter. Ultrasound found 2 large cysts, one was 1 1/2 inch and the second was one inch. 8 smaller cysts the size of peas were also in the gland. I then saw an Endocrinologist who said that I had to have it removed. Then I went on a quest to find out if I could take advantage of the new technology. I felt like Simon Phoenix in Demolition Man. This is the 21st Century now. We have ray guns now. Maybe they can use new medicines like Bladeless Surgery! I checked out different techniques and none would work or could not be applied in my case. Because I had Multi Nodular Goiter Cysts that were not malignant nor benign either. They are goiters and NOT tumours. I was hoping that I could have these cysts burnt out using microwave needle ablation like they do with the Prostate Gland. No such luck.

I was now in the hospital OR flat on my back with a IV dripping Benzodiazepin into my left arm. Inhalants were forbidden by me. No Ether chemicals like Cyclopropane or Halothane either. Only air, oxygen and nitrous oxide were permitted. When I awoke from surgery, a nurse would give me an injection of Morphine Sulfate 4 mg every four hours.

I would not suffer they horrible way I did when I had my Gallbladder cut out in The Community Hospital at Dobbs Ferry in April 1989. The nurses there were substandard and sadistically cruel women who seemed to enjoy seeing me suffer in agony.

I really hated Halothane and I blamed it for causing lung pains.

Doc Komisar held his gloved hands up over me and said he wanted to try to leave the center of the gland in, so that I would not need to take Synthroid pills forever. I said No, excise the entire gland. It is too sick and diseased to save. It will cause even more trouble left inside. After he removed it, he imaged it in a digital photo. I said it looks like it was unsalvageable.

The only cure for it was surgery. I never needed the Radioactive scan or CAT Scan. Just an Ultrasound Sonogram and a MRI of the neck.

MRI of my Brain showed Vasculitis was causing my Cluster Migraine Headaches. Functional MRI shows doctors I do suffer great pain in real time. Drugs like Morphine and Fentanyl are worthless. They do not work at all. Only Valium and similar drugs work. My guess is that it relaxes the muscles in the vascular system and provides some kind of pain relief. Side effects from taking such drugs for over one month directly causes me to become suicidal. That means I do not take them often. No Valium and no depression. Naproxen and Ibuprofen sometimes works. MRI also found a polyp inside my nasal cavity that makes me snore. He does not want to excise it, because it is not benign nor malignant. It is just a fold of tissue. Mostly harmless.

The Thyroid tests were always OK, right up to surgery.
Ultrasound was the best way of finding these cysts.

I have a tiny scar below my beard. Some makeup covers the pinkish scar.

What's that Hospital like? It is huge! The diagnostic staff is very professional and more so than any other hospital except for maybe St Francis in Roslyn NY.

I did not deliberately choose Lenox Hill. My ENT moved from Mt Sinai in a move upward.
