Diesel Mechanic Reply

Dad was frustrated. His starter for the crawler crane broke.

He changed it. It did not start.

Dad said he needed a diesel mechanic.

I asked him "Why don't you call up Pappy at H.O. Penn?

He said they went out of business. I said No, they moved out of Hunts Point to be near the Whitestone Bridge.

I even showed Dad their website.

We were about to leave and I stopped.

All it was, is an electric motor. I'm good with those.

I said wait, let me see if I can fix it.

I went into the back of the cab. A huge Caterpillar Diesel engine with 1500 Hp sat there.

I checked the starters wires and everything seemed OK.

I went in back and it was too dark to see. I told Dad the wires seemed dead and I went to get my VOM meter.

I went inside the house to get the meter and Dad began to shout that he found the problem. It was a loose wire,

The engine started up like a shot.

Dad said, Thanks Mark!

I should have been a mechanic or doctor.
